Relief for Dry Winter Lips
Our lips surely suffer when cold weather rolls around, don’t
they? That’s why a good, high-quality lip balm is such an
essential winter accessory.
The most significant thing to look at when selecting a lip balm
is the ingredient list. Contrary to popular belief, products like
Chap Stick and Carmex are NOT effectual at treating chapped lips.
They typically contain petroleum byproducts, which shape an impenetrable
barrier over your lips. While this barrier is cold if your lips
are already moist and you want to stay ‘em that way, it’s
not gonna do a thing to assist dry, chapped lips. So make sure that
your lip salve is petroleum-free! Look for nourishing ingredients
like shea butter, olive oil and cocoa butter that will wet and protect
your lips. Also, herbs like calendula and comfrey can help cracked,
painful lips heal more quickly.
Some of the lip balms I’ve establish to be truly effective
over my many years as a Wisconsinite include Burt’s Beeswax
lip salve (a classic!), Body Botanicals Hydrating lip salve (made
with shea butter) and Nature’s Acres Orange Calendula lip
balm (featuring together calendula and comfrey).
If all else fails, you can forever make your own lip balm ... it’s
easier than you believe! Simply merge 1 tsp cocoa butter, 1/2 tsp
grated beeswax and 1 tsp almond oil in a little dish. Set the dish
in a pan of hot water and go away it there until the ingredients
thaw (about one minute). If you’d like, add one drop of necessary
oil and stir gently. Pour the combination into a lip balm tin or
salve jar, let it chill for 15-20 minutes, and enjoy!
