Heads Up! Lice Check!

Fall is just approximately the corner, and for lots of folks and their kids, it's back-to-school time. Unfortunately, these are best conditions for the spread of head lice. A head louse is a tiny bug the size (and shape) of a sesame seed. Live lice are not forever seen and the only sign of infestation may be the nits (lice eggs) fond of to the hair shaft. Nits are oval-shaped and typically grayish- or yellowish-white. Children with lice may grumble of their head itching or have red, hive-like bumps on their scalp. Lice do not jump or fly, but are extend by close person-to-person contact such or by sharing individual items such as hats, brushes, combs and pillows. Although they are annoying, lice do not broadcast other diseases and typically do not cause serious health problems. Most lice infestations can be simply treated.

Once you are sure that you or your child has lice, the first step of behavior is to get an over-the-counter lice treatment kit such as Rid or Nix. Most are both single or contain 2 applications to be used 7-10 days separately. Remember, the majority lice-killing products are pesticides, so follow all instructions carefully. Consult your doctor or pharmacies if the person being treated is pregnant, nursing, has allergies, asthma, epilepsy or an additional pre-existing medical condition, or has nits in the eyebrows or eyelashes. Do not use lice treatments on infants. Never apply chemicals such as rubbing alcohol, kerosene, gasoline or paint thinner to pleasure lice.

For treatment to succeed, it is necessary to physically remove lice eggs with a fine-toothed nit comb. Besides treatment of the hair, head and scalp, it is most important to machine-wash all potentially impure clothes, bedding and towels in hot water and dried out them in a hot dryer. Clean all brushes and other possibly bare headwear. It is sensible to clean, dust and vacuum the house and car seats. Using lice sprays on furniture is not advised. After you have treated for lice, it is significant to continue to inspect all family members strongly for several weeks.
