The Spectrum of Medicine

All systems of medical practice are initially grounded in a set of assumptions about health, disease and the curative process. Where you stand philosophically in relation to these attitudes by often determine which system you choose for managing your fitness and illnesses. Community Pharmacy's wide range of products illustrates the selection of approaches that a person can take towards healing.

The conventional "allopathic" or rational system of medicine has been the main force in healing since the time of Hippocrates. In this system, the treatment of the patient is based on diagnosis of a disease state which is battled by a presently accepted medical practice in light of the prevailing theories of disease. The named disease is forbidden by the physician with medicine, surgery or other current therapies. Eradicating or controlling the disease is the prime goal of the allopathic system of medicine.

In vitalistic or alternative medicine, the statement is that all humans have a vital life force or Chi (Qi). In sickness and in health, the innate human aptitude to heal is doing the best it can for the patient. Under this attitude, illness is viewed as an imbalance in the patient's health. The practitioner works to endorse those energies of the vital force which improve the functioning of the body's defense mechanisms. This reestablishes the tolerant to a state of balance and freedom to function. Alternative medicine has several options for healing including herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture, bodywork, etc. In little, vitalistic medicine enhances the same physical healing responses that allopathic medicine is trying to hold back.

There is also a third course of action that is becoming ever extra popular. It is called integrative medicine. Integrative medicine tries to join the best of both the allopathic and the option systems for the benefit of the patient.

No matter which way you choose for taking care of your health, look cautiously at all options, and be sure that you feel comfortable and sure in that path. Educate manually and make sure that any practitioners you discuss with are well-trained and have the experience essential to see you through the disease process back to an optimal state of health.
