I would like to compliment the Hon'ble Minister for this initiative and would like to recommend focussing on eradication of adolescent anaemia. It will go a long way in improving the overall health of the nation by creating nutrition awareness amongst adolescents.

With this aim, the ‘12 by 12 initiative’ was launched in 2007 by AIIMS in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF), the Federation of Obstetrical and Gynaecological Societies in India (FOGSI) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). Its aim is to ensure 12gm% Haemoglobin by 12 years of age. Subsequent to its launch, several FOGSI members are carrying out activities related to the ‘12 by 12 initiative’ in their areas. However there is a need to have a nationwide programme under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) for wider reach.
